Our First Week Back

We headed back to school this week.  Needless to say, I was exhausted every single night, but overall, it was a good week.
My oldest also started Kindergarten :(  I'm not sure when she became old enough for school, but it happened when I blinked.
I went ahead and cut out the letters for Kindergarten when I made this 1st grade frame for my class.  I knew I wanted to have it ready for her first day :)
It is a whole new world having your child with you after school.  So far, she's been able to keep herself entertained (thank you PBS and construction paper), but I'm not sure it will last for another 176 days.
Anyways, speaking of the frames above, I took a picture of each of my students on the first day of school.  Then I came home and printed these pages on my color printer for each child.
They completed their page the next day.  They turned out really cute.  Of course, I forgot to take a picture of my bulletin board.  My favorite was "When I grow up, I want to be an ice cream maker."  Now, that's my kind of kid :)  You can click on the picture below to download a copy for yourself.  I have included a Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade version.

The first week is all about procedures, procedures, procedures.  We practice everything many times.  Throughout the first couple of days, I take pictures of the students doing these things correctly.  This gives them a visual to follow throughout the year.
Here are examples of my pictures. (Obviously, the ones in my room do not have the smiley faces covering my student's faces.)

You can click HERE to download a blank copy of the pages above, then you can insert your own classroom pictures.
Here are a couple other free downloads for you.
I send this home during the first week of school so I can learn more about the students in my class.  Just click on the picture to download.  I have included a Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade version.
I printed off this "To Do" list and laminated it.  I just keep it on my desk with a dry erase marker.  I don't know how many post-it notes and random scraps of paper I went through last year writing to-do lists.  Click on the picture to download.

I hope you enjoy your weekend.  I know I have a full weekend of relaxing planned.

I hate to even ask you this...but could you make a sign that says, "We are first and second graders and this is how it looks when..." I am a split this year, and I love how you did your other things in multiple grades! Maybe you could just do one more. :)

The picture of your students in all their smiley face glory listening to the teacher and walking down the hall cracks me right up and makes me happy. Those smileys are the best. I bet your students would get a kick out of seeing it, too.

I absolutely LOVE the "We are First Graders and this is what it looks like when ... " I love your choice of font/color/layout for each slide and it's wonderful that we can add our own pictures. That personalizes it and helps build buy-in for the students.

A huge favor: Would it be possible for me or you to unlock the first slide and change "First Grade" to "Second Grade"?

Thanks for all you've shared!

I Love the I am a 1st grader activity, but can't get your words to delete in google docs so I can insert my picture. Is there a trick to doing this?
